In today’s increasingly complex shared supply chains, clear and accurate presentation of product identification information is essential at all stages in the process. This is particularly important at shipping case and secondary packaging level, to ensure the right product gets to the right shelf at the right time.Traditionally, two methods of product identification on shipping cases have been used.
Many companies still use pre-printed cartons, perhaps with a low resolution case coder for late stage information coding, but this often proves inflexible and is expensive if there are a large number of SKU’s to cater for.
The use of print and apply labelling systems can alleviate some of the flexibility issues but they are often complex mechanical installations and the consumables – label stock and ribbons – can lead to a high cost per print.
